Concept
The MUBI FEST is designed as an immersive journey through auteur cinema, celebrating cinematic, musical, and visual arts culture. With a program featuring screenings of feature films, short films, and thematic retrospectives, audiences will have the chance to meet special guests, participate in talks, explore artistic installations, and enjoy concerts and DJ sets.
Among the festival premieres, Queer by Luca Guadagnino will be presented, along with Grand Theft Hamlet, winner of the Best Documentary Feature award at this year’s SXSW, with co-director and protagonist Sam Crane in attendance.
The Q&A sessions and discussions will feature talents, filmmakers, and performers from the contemporary Italian and international cinema scene, including Alice Rohrwacher (La Chimera, Happy as Lazzaro), Luca Marinelli (The Eight Mountains, M. The Son of the Century), Tarsem (The Fall), and Alexandre Koberidze (What Do We See When We Look at the Sky?).
Within the festival, special attention will be given to the Le Prime Volte (First Times) retrospective, a project celebrating the best Italian directorial debuts of the last decade. Designed to highlight emerging talents in new Italian cinema, this section will host directors who have already made a significant mark on the contemporary scene. Irene Dionisio (The Last Things), Yuri Ancarani (Atlantide, The People of the Women), and Tommaso Santambrogio (Oceans Are the Real Continents, Taxibol) will share insights and reflections on their creative journeys.
The festival will also offer moments of intersection between cinema and music, with conversations featuring Francesco Bianconi and Margherita Vicario, as well as unmissable DJ sets by N.A.I.P. and Ciao Discoteca Italiana. Additionally, the event will include dialogues with prominent figures from the social and cultural spheres, such as Marina Pierri, Giulia Quintabà (Juliet Vampire), Elisa Pellegrino (Cortomiraggi), and Matilde Santantonio.
Among the thematic retrospectives, Piccoli Film, Grandi Nomi (Small Films, Big Names) will present a selection of short films by acclaimed directors like Sofia Coppola, Bong Joon-Ho, and Aki Kaurismäki. Millennials on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown will delve into the anxieties and transformations of a generation in crisis, featuring screenings of generational cult films like Shiva Baby by Emma Seligman, starring Rachel Sennott, and Zia Anger’s latest work, My First Film, with Odessa Young. These selections offer audiences the opportunity to discover works that approach cinema with fresh and original perspectives, showcasing the talent of both established and emerging creators.
The MUBI FEST is a unique opportunity to immerse oneself in the beauty of auteur cinema, explore new perspectives, and meet the protagonists of the contemporary scene. An unmissable event for all lovers of cinema and the visual arts.
